Persona Challenge
There is a school of thought that maintains that if more of the members of the SCA made a small effort at being "in persona" from time to time that the overall feel of our events would be enhanced.
The Persona Challenge is our attempt to test this hypotheses.
What if you had a time machine and a Universal Translator and using them you brought a collection of personages from throughout the ancient and mediaeval world to one, neutral location?.
What would they talk about? What interests would be common to them? How would one see the events and lifestyles of another?
How much could you learn about someone's life and time just from the conversations you had?
Here is how the Challenge works...
Each person wishing to take part in the Persona Challenge will sign up by mid day Saturday, signifying their intent to compete and will be presented with a token to wear the identifies them as taking part.
The challenge will run from the moment the participants signifies his/her desire to take part, until the end of the Court. While the challenge is in effect, participants will interact with other AS there persona. At the end of the challenge, a poll of the participants will be taken as to whom each thought had done the best during the challenge. Yes, the participant each vote for someone else in the challenge and the one with the most votes will be deemed the winner.
What do we mean by "In Persona"?
No, we do not expect you to speak German if your persona is German, or even speak with an outrageous French accent if your persona is French. Nor do we expect a litany of "Forsoothisms".
What the challenge is about is knowing your persona's time and life well enough to converse and make small talk from their point of view.
It is not necessary to write out documentation about your persona for this challenge. We are not going to judge each others research in that way. What will be judged is how well you know your persona and how well you express this knowledge in your dealing with others.
Those who do not wish to take part in the challenge themselves are encouraged to try to their hand and holding their own persona when/if they interact with those who are, though this is not required..
However we do ask everyone to help the competitors by not trying to break them out of character by confronting them with blatantly out of period conversation or actions.
